One sign that rats are being controlled is that in late summer we see families of fantails flitting around. The sad side to that is that little fantail eggs and chicks are preferred rat food – they are renowned for visiting nests and helping themselves. So please give the fantails a helping hand by being vigilant at baiting and checking your traps! You can read more about fantails and rat attacks in this New Zealand Geographic article.
